April is an exciting month for us here at Orig3n as we get to celebrate two holidays — DNA Day on April 25th and Future of Medicine Day on April 26th! While you’re probably familiar with what DNA is, you may be wondering what ‘DNA Day’ and ‘Future of Medicine Day’ are all about. Let us explain.
What is DNA Day?
Organized by the National Human Genome Research Institute, DNA Day is a worldwide celebration of the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003, and the discovery of the double helix by James Watson, Francis Crick, and their colleagues in 1953.
In short: DNA Day is a tribute to the numerous scientific and genetic advances that have been made possible as a result of its discovery and is a day dedicated to passing this knowledge on to people around the world.
In addition to DNA Day, Orig3n also celebrates Future of Medicine Day.
Falling only one day after DNA Day, on April 26th, Future of Medicine Day was created in 2016 by Boston Mayor, Martin J. Walsh. The day is recognized in the city of Boston to acknowledge Orig3n’s leading research into regenerative medicine and our unique ability to make an impact on the health and well-being of people around the world.
“We’re honored to be considered a prominent member of Boston’s innovative community and to help contribute to the growing biotech and life sciences industry in this city and are excited for what the future of medicine holds not only for the citizens of Boston but for everyone worldwide.” — Robin Smith, CEO of Orig3n
Why DNA Day and The Future of Medicine Day Are Important to Us
DNA is crucial to the foundation and core of everything we do here at Orig3n.
Because of DNA, we’re able to create lifestyle DNA tests to provide you with direct access to your genetic information and empower you to take charge of your lifestyle.
Thanks to the important discovery made in 1953, and the continued research and scientific advances since then, we have been able to work toward our core mission of personalizing the future of health — and every day, we’re one step closer.
