Our Best Moments From The 2018 Boston Marathon

Orig3n team at the Boston Marathon

Here at Orig3n, we’re focused on advancing the future of health for everyone. From our DNA tests to our research in regenerative medicine, we want to make the world a healthier place and empower people to use their genetic information to make more informed decisions in their daily lives. Join us as we explain how science and technology come together to create a revolution in personal care.

From April 13 to 15, we attended the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo — the running industry’s premier event for new products and services and official number pick-up location for the runners in the 2018 Boston Marathon.

The Boston Marathon Expo was a perfect venue for us to not only educate individuals about the importance of regenerative medicine but to also explain the actionable information provided by our DNA tests. We want everyone to know how easy it is to gain access to their DNA results and use them as motivation to improve their health.

You might have heard of the Boston Marathon, but do you know its history?

History of The Boston Marathon

Located in our hometown of Boston, the race has been a pinnacle event in the city’s history since 1897. With around 500,000 spectators each year, the marathon has become New England’s most widely-viewed sporting event and the world’s oldest annual marathon.

Why?

John Graham, Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) member and the US Olympic Team Manager at the time, was inspired by the spirit of the 1896 Olympic Marathon and wanted to recreate the experience in the Boston area.

Thus, the Boston Marathon race was born!

The first marathon in Boston was held in April of 1897. This race only had 15 participants —that’s a lot fewer than the current average of 30,000 registered participants!

Where?

The race spans across eight cities and towns throughout Massachusetts — Hopkinton, Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline, and Boston. The finish line is located at Copley Square alongside the Boston Public Library.

The B.A.A. also hosts a health and fitness expo for the runners and their families the weekend prior to the event. This year, the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo was held in Seaport — just a few blocks from our office!— and we were very excited to be a partner at this event.

Orig3n’s Best Boston Marathon 2018 Highlights

What do we do?

If you visited us at the Expo, you may have noticed some people swabbing their cheeks and others donating blood, and wondered:

What’s the difference and where does each sample go?

Here at Orig3n, we have two sides to our business — selling lifestyle DNA tests and advancing regenerative medicine through cell therapy.

Our lifestyle DNA tests offer consumers direct, affordable access to their genetic information so they can take steps to live a better, more informed lifestyle. All it takes is a swab of your cheek (no blood needed!) to access your DNA results.

Once your results are ready, you can access them via our LifeProfile mobile app or lifeprofile.com website, and you can share them with your healthcare provider, personal trainer, nutritionist, or anyone else you’d like!

However, DNA tests are only a very small part of what we do.

Here at Orig3n, we’ve also created the world’s largest crowdsourced cell bank for regenerative medicine through donated blood samples from people like you! All it takes is a half-a-teaspoon of blood. Using cutting-edge science and technology, we are developing cell therapies to treat a wide range of diseases and hopefully one day, end trial-and-error medicine.

So how does this all connect?

The proceeds from our DNA tests are used to help fund our research into regenerative medicine. Not only are you able to improve your life through access to your genetic information, but you can assist in helping us create cell therapies to improve the lives of everyone, and reverse the progression of a broad array of diseases!
